Beet the lipstick bandit with beetroot!

Have you ever searched for your lipstick, only to find it tucked away in your daughter's drawer, the creamy nib broken and covered in fluff?
I have. Many times!
This six year old girl can apply lipstick with such precision and accuracy, I am begrudgingly impressed. If only she coloured in the lines for her homework with such concentration and skill.

I started to think about simple and cheap lip colour alternatives for my lovely girl to use and I decided to experiment with products found around the home.
Beetroot juice is my first obvious choice as the juice of a beetroot stains everything it touches.
Rather than boil a fresh beetroot, as that takes at least ten minutes, I opened a package of prepared beetroot and poured the purple juice into a bowl and mixed it in with some coconut oil.
The oil does not allow the juice to penetrate your lips as effectively as the juice alone. Slapping on the beetroot juice without the oil, I waited a few minutes and then smeared on the coconut oil for some shine.
I must say, I am amazed at how long the deep tinge of red lasted on my lips. The longer you leave it on, the deeper the colour appears.
I really wanted to have my daughter try this simple lip stain but I, well, I ate it! Delicious!
